San Diego Comic-Con Returns for a Smashing Success

Running from July 23rd to July 26th, this year’s edition of San Diego Comic-Con has kicked off! Operating in San Diego for over 50 years, Comic-Con has become one of the most important events for the film and comics industries, as some of the largest and most influential IPs tease new content there. In 2024, for example, Marvel Studios held a panel featuring the leads of Deadpool & Wolverine, which released the same day (and went on to make over a billion dollars at the box office). 

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 promises to be equally exciting, including more than 40 surprise guests besides the regularly scheduled panelists. These panelists include Ryan Condal, the showrunner for HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” as well as the teams behind shows like “American Dad,” “Futurama,” and “Family Guy.” 

Comic-Con is held at San Diego’s Convention Center in downtown, so there’s plenty to do nearby throughout the day for anyone hoping to attend. There’s also a number of events nearby accessible for anyone without a Comic-Con pass, so keep an eye out for pop-ups and anything with a Comic-Con logo! Of course, with Comic-Con being as big of an event as it is, downtown tends to get quite crowded during the event, particularly in the morning as thousands of people (some of them in costume) make their way through the city to the Convention Center. 

If you’re planning to attend Comic-Con this year, you might want to use public transportation to get downtown. Local officials are urging anyone traveling to or from Comic-Con this weekend to make use of the San Diego Trolley, which will run every 15 minutes on all lines downtown. Alternatively, you can utilize Coaster service to travel from as far as Oceanside to the Convention Center for the big event. There’s even a themed Magic: The Gathering trolley for any fans of Wizards of the Coast’s card game planning on attending.

This year’s Comic-Con is certain to be one for the history books. Even if you’re a San Diegan without tickets, it’s worth cruising by the Convention Center for a few hours to catch some of the events that don’t require a ticket and to see some truly excellent cosplays. A world of fantasy, superheroes, and movie magic is only a trolley ride away!
